wenyan.ai
A Custom LLM for Classical Chinese
wenyan.ai is a custom large language model (LLM) software designed to address the issues of authenticity, originality, and creativity in traditional East Asian source materials written in literary Sinitic, also known as classical Chinese. The wenyan.ai LLMs are pretrained and fine-tuned exclusively on classical Chinese corpora using various types of transformer-based encoder and decoder architectures, such as BERT, RoBERTa, and T5. The prototypes developed in conjunction with the Big Data Studies Lab, our parent lab at the University of Hong Kong, already outperform the existing solutions by 20 to 40 percentage points in accuracy. Our next task is to add explainability to the attention layers and experiment with generative features to create samples of machine-authored classical Chinese prose and poetry.
Our long-term objective is to develop an online platform with a set of features that will be used regularly by secondary school pupils as well as academic specialists who research East Asia's rich literary Sinitic heritage.
Nabi
An AI Chatbot to Enhance Learning
Nabi is an AI chatbot developed using the Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) technique to overcome the limitations of existing AI educational tools. On their own, large language models (LLMs) tend to provide overly general, inaccurate, or irrelevant feedback. Nabi delivers precise, authoritative content from the digital humanities secondary literature and offer both students and educators a reliable resource for understanding and keeping pace with the discipline's advancements. As Nabi's development progresses, the chatbot system, as well as its relevant AI technologies, will be incorporated into Kernel's certification and consulting services.
